What we do :

Ambitrans has 3 main operational divisions................

Wheelchair van transportation - takes wheelchair patients to and from hospitals, clinics, physician offices, therapy, nursing facilities and private homes. Most vans can take several wheelchairs or a single stretcher for those patients who are unable to sit.
Non-Emergency Ambulance transportation - only used for patients whose condition requires some level of medical care. Ambulances are  staffed by Florida Certified Paramedics and Emergency Medical Technicians. Ambitrans is not a 911 service.
Dial-a-Ride contract operator ( public transportation system in Charlotte County, FL ) Charlotte County's public transportation uses small buses with wheelchair access, is scheduled in advance, will pickup and drop off at any location in the County and can be used by anyone for a small fee

Ambitrans has locations in 3 Counties in S.W. Florida........

Charlotte County:

Port Charlotte - is our main base of operations. All administrative offices, dispatch center and most of the ambulances and wheelchair vans operate from this location.

Punta Gorda - is the base for the Dial-a-Ride public transportation system. As the contract operator, Ambitrans only provides the employees who then work in County offices and drive County owned vehicles.

Sarasota County:

Sarasota - is a operational location for several wheelchair vans. This is the former location of "Gene's Freedom Transport" a company Ambitrans purchased in September of 2002.

Venice - has both ambulances ( operated as "Venice Ambulance Service" ) and wheelchair vans. This base is centrally located for quick access to many facilities.

Lee County:

Fort Myers - was opened in July of 2002 to provide non-emergency ambulance service to hospitals and nursing facilities in the area. We are also increasing wheelchair van service in Lee County.

What about employment :

Most of our employees are "field personnel" supported by a group of dispatch, billing and management staff.  Although each job position will have specific requirements and responsibilities, there are some overall requirements that apply to all field personnel :

Ambitrans is open 24 hours, 7 days a week, 365 days a year - work schedules may include any of those days and hours.
Ambitrans is a transportation service - you must have a driving record acceptable to our insurance carrier. [State of Florida Drivers License website]
EMT's and Paramedics must be Florida certified or be eligible for Florida certification and must also be acceptable to Ambitrans Medical Director. [State of Florida EMS website]
Ambitrans is a "Drug Free Workplace" and conducts random drug and alcohol screening in addition to pre-scheduled testing.
